Iowa's risk and compliance framework for STEM programs for girls centers on compliance with the state's 2019 computer science education mandate. Districts must show that proposed workshops do not duplicate the required high school computer science unit but may extend middle-school exposure. All equipment purchases must follow Iowa's public bidding thresholds for items exceeding $5,000.
University partners must hold current Iowa Board of Regents or community college accreditation; out-of-state institutions require additional letters of support from the Iowa Department of Education. Mentorship components must use Iowa-licensed educators or STEM professionals with documented Iowa employment.
The STEM Education Workshops for Girls program requires submission of district-level computer science course enrollment data disaggregated by gender for the prior two years. Post-program tracking must align with Iowa's existing Iowa STEM Advisory Council reporting templates. Liability coverage must meet Iowa Code 670 standards for public school facility use.
Iowa differs from Nebraska and Missouri because compliance requires explicit reference to the 2019 computer science graduation requirement statute. Applications without the required district enrollment data tables or without Iowa-specific liability endorsements are returned without technical review.
