Summary

This opportunity offers grant funding to qualified organizations serving a cluster of counties in the Midwest.  It is particularly geared toward nonprofit entities and public bodies that are able to demonstrate tax‑exempt status under U.S. law.  Applicants are expected to prepare essential documents—proof of exemption, program and operating budgets, recent financial statements and federal tax returns—before submitting a request.  Grants are not available to individuals or for‑profit businesses, and proposals from entities that restrict membership or services based on race, socio‑economic status or similar characteristics are generally disqualified.  The program does not support conferences, advertising, religious activities or national organizations whose work lies outside the specified counties.

Organizations located in the eligible region—an eight‑county area of Iowa that includes Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Grundy, Fayette and Tama—can seek funding to address local needs in four broad categories: social issues, educational initiatives, family life and community development, and health, recreation and fitness programs.  Projects might range from after‑school tutoring to family counseling, community nutrition campaigns or wellness and recreation initiatives.  Because the focus is on improving community vitality, successful applicants typically present projects that build character, enhance family support or expand access to essential services.  Applicants may apply once per year, and typical award amounts fall between one and five figures.  Larger requests may be considered but require consultation with the organization’s leadership.

The program accepts proposals twice annually, with March and September deadlines corresponding to decisions announced in May and November.  All requests are reviewed and voted on by a governing board, and selected applicants receive written notice of the decision.  Grantees are usually required to provide periodic reports on how the funds were used and on the project’s impact on the community.  Organizations are encouraged to contact program administrators early in the process for guidance on eligibility and application requirements.
