Transportation infrastructure constraints include limited commercial air service to Sioux City and Burlington, requiring ground transport of materials to central processing hubs in Ames or Cedar Rapids. Seasonal flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers has historically disrupted courier routes for three to six weeks each spring.
Iowa differs from neighboring Nebraska because its project staffing models must incorporate county extension staff as digitization assistants under memoranda of understanding with the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach service.
