Tracking post-secondary enrollment in Iowa State University’s agricultural engineering program provides one state-specific metric.
Implementation requires documented access to FAA-approved airspace within 30 miles of the school and insurance coverage meeting Iowa Code requirements for educational use of unmanned aircraft. Budgets must allocate at least 40 percent of funds to hardware that remains with the school rather than temporary rentals.
